Weed Mapping Survey - We are pleased to share that the first phase of our Weed Mapping Survey is complete. Princeton Hydro and LHA volunteers conducted the survey on the lake from Friday, September 10 through Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Each day, an LHA volunteer and Princeton Hydro scientist set out onto the Lake to investigate aquatic plant life and develop a comprehensive database and set of GPS maps detailing their findings.
The information gained from the survey will be used to develop an “Aquatic Plant Management Plan,” which we expect to be available later this fall. The plan will provide recommendations on methods to increase the effectiveness and efficiency associated with the existing weed management efforts, identify and assess the potential of various weed control alternatives, and develop strategies for control of the aquatic plant community with an emphasis on invasive species.
Results of this survey will help us with our Alternative Weed Control Method Project next season, which will pilot test several new control methods in designated areas to help determine additional cost-effective and efficient practices to control nuisance plants in the future.
